UDP leadership convention set for July

By BBN Staff: The United Democratic Party’s (UDP) disrupted and delayed convention to elect a new leader to helm the party into the next general election slated for November will take place on July 12, according to reports from UDP sources.

The report indicates the convention will be held at the ITVET Freetown Road campus. Time and voting process are yet to be announced.

The UDP’s process of selecting a new leader was delayed by the global COVID-19 pandemic following an unraveling of the results of the previous convention held in February. Current Minister of National Security, John Saldivar, beat Education Minister and long-time rival Patrick Faber in that convention but his victory was undone in 72 hours following damning evidence against having received payments of over $25,000 from convicted fraudster Lev Dermen.

In the months following those development, Saldivar has indicated his intention to once again seek leadership, as has Faber and several other contenders including Wilfred Elrington, Omar Figueroa and Darrell Bradley.
