George Price Highway between Belmopan and Belize City reopens

By BBN Staff: Authorities have informed that the George Price Highway between Belmopan and Belize City is now open to vehicular traffic, following its closure yesterday due to flood damage at several points on the road.

Police Commissioner Chester Willimas took to social media this morning to say that the road has been reopened, “Thanks to Ministry of Works for their hard work throughout the day and night yesterday to ensure the restoration of the collapsed portion of the road.”

The Ministry of Works mobilized personnel and equipment yesterday after sections of the road collapsed due to heavy rains in a 12-hour span making travel between Belize City and Belmopan rendered impossible for the entire day.

Massive flooding was reported in northern and western Belize yesterday, with some areas completely impassable, while many homes and even some farms being affected by the rising waters.
