By BBN Staff: A total of 1,032 police officers cast their votes yesterday to elect a new managing board for the Belize Police Association. That new board, primarily made up of female police officers, is now lead by Sergeant Jane Usher, who took a commanding lead over her opponent, Corporal Eldon Arzu.

In an interview with the media Usher and her second in command, Sergeant Jermaine Hyde, pledged to focus their tenure on working in unity with all officers for the betterment of the department.

“At the end of the day, there are many issues affecting police officers that can be resolved with a little bit of teamwork and togetherness and I think that is what we want to bring…,” Usher said.

She added that, despite her executive being predominantly women, it will employ an inclusive leadership style as it does have male representation.

Hyde noted that yesterday’s election saw a better turnout out than others in years past, which he believes is proof that the department is looking for the association to step up and work hard for the officers. The association, which represents Sergeants, Corporals, and Constables, says that the welfare of the officers will be its top priority, which should translate to better on the job efficiency by its members.
