Guatemalan national arrested for Toledo chopping incident

By BBN Staff: A Guatemalan national, Emilio Esquivel, 57, has been detained by police following a chopping incident in San Pedro Colombia Village, Toledo.

According to police, Arnulpho Vellela, 67, reported that on Monday June 22 around 12:45 a.m. his brother Emilio arrived home and began threatening him with a machete. Their other brother, Carlos Vellela, 69, then arrived home and intervened.

During the process of doing so, Esquivel inflicted a chop wound to Carlos’ forearm. After being chopped, Carlos ran to the road side where he was assisted and taken to the San Antonio clinic.

Carlos Vellela was issued a medico legal form at the San Antonio clinic where his injures were certified as grievous harm. Carlos was further transported to the Southern Regional Hospital by ambulance and was listed in stable condition.
