Contributed: On Sunday, gang members from George Street and Taylor’s Alley came together for a friendly father’s day basketball game. The event was organized by Shyne Barrow and was supported by the Clyde Williams, Commissioner of Police, Patrick Faber, Minister of Sports, and Nuri Mohammed from the Conscious Youth Development Programme (CYDP).
In delivering the main address, UDP standard bearer for the Mesopotamia division said that he was very proud of the young leaders in his division who have come together to end years of genocide and move in unity towards growth and development. Shyne added “we are one MESOPOTAMIA FAMILY!!! No separation! George Street and Taylor’s Alley are brothers and sisters”
The basketball game was played on a basketball court that was recently built through the efforts of Shyne Barrow. According to Barrow, his promise to build a basketball court through Taylor’s Alley “was more than just recreation, it was about an investment in human capital”.
The father’s day game was dubbed a ‘Peace Game’ as it is considered one additional step to keep the peace between two gangs that have a history of rivalry.
