Police investigate activities of 15 men detained on alleged fishing excursion

Posted: Monday, June 22, 2020. 4:36 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: Police are investigating the activities of 15 individuals who were initially detained around 3 a.m  on Sunday near Little Belize in Corozal.

The individuals, which include 3 law enforcement officers, 2 BDF officers and other civilians were intercepted by a Coast Guard patrol who were called out after they had received reports of a possible drug plane landing.

The Coast Guard reportedly detained the individuals but they explained that they were fishing.

Today, Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams said that the individuals were indeed found in a fishing area but that the Coast Guard released them shortly after being detained.

However, since there is an ongoing curfew, Williams says that he has directed for the individuals to be detained again and questioned as to their activities in the area.

The Special Branch and Anti Narcotics Unit have launched an investigation.

Williams also said that they will be charged for breach of curfew.
