Courts Belize supports Ministry of Health in the fight against COVID-19

Posted: Tuesday, June 23, 2020. 1:22 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: Today, Courts Belize made a donation of 19 Aeroboxes to the Ministry of Health (MOH) to aid healthcare workers in their fight against COVID-19.

Melinda Guerra, Central Health Region Manager for the MOH, explained that areroboxes are used in managing COVID-19 positive patients to protect the physicians treating the patients.

“The boxes would sit right on top of the patient’s head and shoulders (COVID-19 patients),” Guerra explained. “…it acts as a barrier between the patient and the healthcare provider so it minimizes the risk of exposure to the COVID-19 virus.”

Guerra said that the MOH already has some aeroboxes, so the donation will be used to bolster the ministry’s supply. The donation will be distributed countrywide to regional hospitals and community hospitals.

Javier Ponce, Unicomer (Belize) Ltd. the parent company of Courts, explained that the donation came from one of the company’s suppliers, Mabe, which decided to manufacture the aeroboxes as its contribution to the global COVID-19 response. Ponce noted that Mabe has made a similar donation to several other countries.

“Mabe doesn’t usually manufacture these, they were manufactured and actually given to us so we could donate it here in Belize,” Ponce said.

He noted that Mabe did not give a cash value for the donation, so they did not have one to share with the media, but stressed that the donation is symbolic because it will contribute towards saving lives.
