“There is no second wave of COVID-19,” says Director of Health Services

By BBN Staff: Belize’s number of confirmed COVID-19 cases has increased to 23; however, the Director of Health Services, Dr. Marvin Manzanero, says that there is no “second wave” of the viral outbreak in Belize.

Manzanero, on his latest appearance of ‘Ask the Experts’, said that Belize has seen at least one case a week for the last three to four weeks, but that the conditions under which those positive cases come in are no cause for alarm.

“For now we are not too concerned as a Ministry about those cases that are popping up…because that is a controlled process, people follow specific flows through the airport and then they will go on to the hotel for their quarantine period,” Manzanero said.

He stressed that the Ministry’s key concern remains border jumpers and noted that people within communities know of the ones who are leaving the country illegally and coming back in.

He emphasized that the border jumpers run the highest risk of causing an outbreak and that the concern needs to be addressed.

He also added that another batch of samples is being tested this afternoon and that those results should be ready later.
