By Aaron Humes: There was one Musa, not two, at today’s session of the House of Representatives.
The elder, Right Honourable Said Musa, rarely misses meetings, but has been recovering from a stroke he suffered on May 7.
And next week, it is likely he will need a minor procedure outside of the country to correct his swallowing muscle, without which he will face complications of liquid collecting in his lungs.
Son Kareem Musa told reporters today: “I can say he is coming along excellently; we have excellent doctors tending to him – physiotherapists, speech therapists. All around he has made significant improvement.”
According to the younger Musa, the type of stroke Said Musa, 76, suffered occurs in 2 percent of all stroke sufferers but the recovery level is high, though not without complications.
Otherwise, Kareem Musa said he is “stable, alert, fully aware of what’s going on; mentally he is in excellent spirits.”
Musa made sure to thank all the medical staff and Belizeans who have sent well wishes since Musa’s illness struck.
As for potential succession in the division, Musa only told us, “I am not switching divisions,” and that the party has not made any decision regarding a successor for his father.
