Belize City Mayor Bernard Wagner celebrates birthday

By Aaron Humes: Mayor of Belize City Bernard Wagner is marking a special day today – it’s his birthday, according to the Belize City Council.

This morning the Council posted on social media in honor of “Our leader, our boss, our friend.”

It said, “Today we celebrate Mayor Bernard Wagner for all that he is and all that he contributes to our city. This day marks the birth of a man who walks with integrity, spirituality and immense compassion.”

It expressed “Happiest Birthday wishes and hopes for many more years of success and joy. Happy Birthday Mayor.”

Wagner was a long time manager for the Belize Bank Limited before mounting his first political campaign for the office of Mayor of Belize City under the People’s United Party (PUP), upsetting Dion Leslie and the incumbent three-term United Democratic Party municipal government in elections in March of 2018.

Wagner’s leadership has restored the Council to a level of fiscal prudence and discipline not seen in some time and more recently the Council has been visible doing its part during the COVID-19 pandemic, making donations and keeping the Old Capital going.
