Wave of robberies continue as thieves target Bayview Oasis, Bowen deliverymen

Posted: Sunday, July 5, 2020. 9:14 am CST.

By BBN Staff: As a string on robberies and burglaries continue to plague Belize City, with no tangible plan in sight to address the issue, Bayview Oasis Bar located at mile 5 on the Philip Goldson highway was the latest target.

According to police, just before 3:00 yesterday, robbers targeted the establishment at the same time a Bowen and Bowen delivery truck stopped to make a delivery.

Gilbert Hemsley Jr., 24, told police that when he, Rasheed Dena and Deandre Pitter arrived to make their delivery, they were approached by two black men, one of whom was armed with a gun.

Hemsley Jr. was robbed of $3,400, property of Bowen and Bowen and an iPhone 6 valued at $550. The other perpetrator then proceeded to rob Dena of a cell phone valued at $850, $30 cash, a Heritage Bank ATM card and his Social Security card.

The thieves also took an undisclosed amount of cash from the cash register. Thereafter, both ran out of the business towards the Philip Goldson Highway. Police are investigating.
