By Aaron Humes: A curfew for minors remains in effect from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. according to Minister of National Security Michael Peyrefitte. If you are out as a minor you must be accompanied by an adult.

It is the only addition to the current State of Emergency regulations for Southside Belize City, but otherwise it is business as usual.

The Minister made a special plea to citizens to cooperate with and not disrespect Police: “It always disgusts me when I see the Police try to do their jobs and people just openly disrespect the Police while they’re trying to work. I’ve seen the Police go into certain areas and they are hit by civilians; they are punched, they are spat on; and it really, really angers me. Demonstrate, please, some respect to the police officers, some respect to the peace officers and you’ll be fine. If you believe that you can disrespect the Police because you think it’s cool, then you’ll feel some pain. Cooperate with the Police, be a law-abiding citizen, and you’ll be fine.”

Meanwhile, Commissioner Williams went after parents of those criminally involved young men who he has previously referred to as “animals.”

“And to the parents who continue to tolerate your children to behave like monsters among us, I say to you that if you continue you will see the police and calling the talk shows in the morning and make it seems as if the police are the monsters is not going to help. We are going to come and we are going to come hard at you. If you don’t want to see the police at your door, you don’t want to see the police at your house then keep your children out of crime. Teach them or mold them to become model citizens so that the police don’t have to be at your home looking for them.”
