By BBN Staff: The Department of the Environment (DOE) reminds all companies producing effluent (wastewater) that the renewal of Licenses to Discharge Effluent is due each year on April 1.
A valid license to discharge effluent is required to comply with the Environmental Protection (Effluent Limitations) Regulations, Chapter 328 of the Subsidiary Laws of Belize, as amended in 2009, especially as it relates to Section 14.
These regulations establish that it is illegal to dispose of effluent without a license or written permission from the DOE.
Companies that have not yet applied should complete an application for renewal of their license and submit it to the DOE, along with payment of the $500 fee for the period 2020/2021.
Payments can be made at the nearest treasury or sub-treasury to Government Account Number 23328/11718/120/15. Proof of payment is to be forwarded to the DOE office along with the application.
For companies that have already applied, kindly be advised that compliance with the Regulations requires the license to be displayed in a noticeable position in the principal building of the premises.
Officers will be checking that the license is properly displayed in upcoming inspections.
