Georgeville residents concerned about community land being surveyed and distributed as lots without approval of village council

Posted: Thursday, July 9, 2020. 4:29 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: Residents and the village council of Georgeville in the Cayo District have raised concerns about the distribution of land in their community.

The council believes that a part of the land destined for a community softball field is being surveyed and is being distributed as residential lots.

The village council found out about the plans in June of this year and claims that the UDP politicians in the area is actively behind this activity.

Village council Chairperson, Joyce Hall, has written to the Ministry of Natural Resources requesting that the Minister put a stop order on the survey and issuance of the lots.

According to the council, 5 acres of the  community land is being taken away and surveyed into 18 residential lots.

Of these 18 lots, only 4 are being given to residents of the Georgeville community. The other 14 lots are being given to other people who are known to be UDP supporters.

A map showing the survey was obtained by the village council and was shared with BBN.

The plan was signed by the Commissioner of Lands in February of 2020. The Chairperson of the village told BBN that no attempt has been made to involve the duly elected council. In addition, the council is totally against the survey of land destined for sports use to convert to lots which are being given to political activists.
