By BBN Staff: Mayor Ashton McKenzie of Punta Gorda Town issued a statement this morning informing everyone that in 8 months, he will retire from electoral politics permanently.

McKenzie says that March of 2021 will mark 6 years in electoral politics at the Municipal level for him.

McKenzie has served as councillor, deputy mayor and mayor.

“While this experience has had it’s fair share of challenges, it has also brought forth success in numerous areas and I am forever grateful for the experience and privilege granted on to me to serve in these capacities,” McKenzie said.

McKenzie says that despite his exit, he will continue to sustain his energy and continue working with the Ashton McKenzie Foundation.

McKenzie thanks everyone who partnered and supported him.

McKenzie says that he is proud of the projects completed at the council and is anxious to see what the next mayor brings.

McKenzie had publicly declared his support for John Saldivar for Leader of the UDP.
