New Elections and Boundaries Commission Chair: “I will be impartial”

Posted: Friday, July 17, 2020. 2:17 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: After being sworn in at the Belize House in Belmopan this morning, new chair of the Elections and Boundaries Commission (EBC), Estevan Perrera, held his first press engagement this afternoon at his law office in Belize City.

Perrera told us he was engaged by the Government to succeed Douglas Singh and accepted in order to do his part for the country and democracy.

Because it is required by his new office and because of his personal integrity, Perrera said he will be impartial and independent in his role and seek the consensus of his fellow members on the decisions to come.

Perrera will meet with the other members of the EBC next week to cover topics such as health and safety issues ahead of the election for voters and the ongoing fight for redistricting of electoral divisions.

More to follow.
