Teacher’s Union turns 50!

Posted: Monday, July 20, 2020. 1:54 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: Today, the Belize National Teachers Union (BNTU) celebrates 50 years of service to its members and to Belize.

In a statement issued today, the union said that the event is being celebrated under the theme “BNTU @50: Deafening, Empowering, and Transforming Teachers, Students, and Nation.” The union also noted that with the current limitations on gatherings as the COVID-19 pandemic continues, it had to cancel all its planned events.

“Through this medium, however, we wish to publicly thank the members, supporters and friends of the union, for your unwavering commitment to the work of the BNTU,” the unions said.

The BNTU also credited itself as the most vocal workers union and said that the occasion of their 50th anniversary is met with “burning passion” to continue working towards a better future for Belize.

Apart from its “Stand up for Belize” campaign which gave rise to the 11-day strike in October 2016 to call for good governance reform from the Government of Belize, the BNTU has also been present at various functions supporting various other unions, such as the “Black Friday” protest hosted by the Christian Workers Union earlier this year.
