By BBN Staff: Today, the Corozal Town Council held a ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the receival of over $300,000 worth of equipment that was made possible through a grant from the Government of Japan.

Earlier this year, Japanese Ambassador, Hiroyuki Kubota and Corozal Town Mayor, Rigo Vellos  signed a grant contract through the Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Project for the procurement of a Garbage Dump Truck and a Garbage Compactor Truck.

The Town had been experiencing issues of waste management control and the council says that the equipment will greatly assist the council and people of Corozal.

In his address today, Vellos thanked the people and government of Japan for their generosity in assisting the Corozal Town Council and by extension the people of Corozal with these assets

Vellos expressed further gratitude to JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) Volunteer, Ryoya Omaya “Roy” who was assigned to Corozal Town to work on enlightening activities for environmental beautification. Roy played an instrumental role in the acquisition of the assets.
