Police: Gang rivalry responsible for multiple shooting, homicide

Posted: Tuesday, July 21, 2020. 10:10 am CST.

By Aaron Humes: Police arrived on the scene of the early-morning double-homicide on Saturday in San Ignacio Town to find three injured, two fatally, and two others in the backseat of a vehicle on Savannah Street. Police believe it was the result of gang rivalry claiming innocent victims.

Several persons are in custody as of Monday afternoon and others are being sought.

Dead were taxi operator Samuel Hill and passenger Windell Trapp, while police officer and footballer Daniel “Danny” Jimenez, 32, lay injured outside. Another male and female were in the back seat of the vehicle; they were identified as Marquise Robateau and Teleisha McKay.

Jimenez and Trapp, footballers both, were talking when the gunman came from a northerly direction. Jimenez and the gunman began to struggle for the weapon, resulting in him being shot; the shooter then turned on those inside, fatally striking Hill and Trapp.

In announcing operational plans for the Twin Towns involving the Gang Suppression Unit (GSU), Commissioner of Police Chester Williams said, “Whenever the police go in to do their work and go after these persons who have no regard for the lives of others. They tend to put things out to play on the emotion of the wider society and then they start to bash the police for doing what the police are doing to bring some calm to the area. Well, let me say that while the police move into San Ignacio to ensure that law and order is maintained, who wants to complain about the actions of the police in dealing with those thugs, they can complain. The police will not be perturbed by those complaints, we will do what needs to be done to address the situation in San Ignacio and Santa Elena and have our good citizens enjoy the sense of peace, security and quietness that they so rightly deserve.”
