BNTU backs Port of Belize Workers

Posted: Wednesday, July 22, 2020. 1:26 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: The Belize National Teachers Union has come out to publicly support the workers at the Port of Belize Limited (PBL) who were terminated earlier today.

BNTU president Elena Smith spoke to the media just now, saying that the BNTU is with the port employees, and that the authorities on the ground are using unjustifiable force.

“We have every right to fight for our rights, and they had no right to behave the way they did,”Smith said.

She called upon the country’s leaders to step in and intervene on behalf of the workers.
