Police disperse blockade at Port of Belize

By BBN Staff: Moments ago the Belize Police Department successfully restored operations at the Port of Belize Limited  (PNL) compound following an incident this morning in which a parked bus was restricting entry.

The bus was parked at the main entrance early this morning prohibiting cargo trucks from entering. Officers were called to the scene who managed to diffuse the situation without major incident.

The blockade speaks to the ongoing tensions between the PBL and its employees that recently took a 10 percent pay cut, many of whom are members of the Christian Workers Union. The parties are set to attend an Essential Services Tribunal later today.
