By Aaron Humes: Amid a reported spike in violent crime in the normally peaceful Corozal District, police are investigating a murder by ambush in one of the gateway villages to Corozal Town.
Raymond Jenkins, 31, of Carolina Village, Corozal District, had gone by car to neighboring Calcutta village on July 22, around 2:15 p.m. in the afternoon to see a repairer of cellular phones. While he was waiting in his car, Police said today, he was approached and shot by one of two men on a red motorcycle. Jenkins was pronounced dead at the Corozal Community Hospital, rushed there in vain.
According to the National head of Crimes Investigation Branch, Joseph Myvette, an as-yet unexplained spike in crime has taken place in the last week.
