Guatemala buries dozens of unidentified COVID-19 victims

By BBN Staff: The Associated Press reports that Guatemalan hospitals have buried dozens of COVID-19 victims who were never identified.

The hospitals have created archives hoping that after the pandemic, relatives will seek them.

Many patients arrive alone and too sick to provide other details.

The victims of COVID-19 that die are placed in body bags with transparent windows over the faces in case relatives finally arrive.

The country has reported over 47,000 infections and more than 1,800 deaths.

The director of the public cemetery administration told the AP that so far nobody has reached seeking any of the victims buried.

They have only been marked as ‘XX’.

Some hospital staffers have tried their best to assist relatives to identify their loved ones with photographs.
