Tripadvisor names Belize’s Coco Plum Island Resort the most romantic destination in the world

By BBN Staff: Even in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, Coco Plum Island Resort has further solidified Belize’s place in the global tourism industry by earning the prestigious Tripadvisor Travelers’ Choice Award for Best Romantic destination in the World.

The adults-only, private island resort off the coast of Dangriga, has been recognized in its category as being the best of the top 1 percent
of all listings on TripAdvisor.

Our newsroom spoke today with Kimberly Castillo, the Marketing Manager at Coco Plum Island Resort, who explained that the property has been earning Tripadvisor awards since 2014, but earning this particular accolade is special because of what it means for the country on a whole.

“The world is a big place, and first and foremost the recognition means a lot to us, yes it’s good for our resort, but it’s also great

for the country of Belize. This exposure, having a locally owned and managed Belize resort on this best in the world list is huge,” Castillo said.

She noted that last year Coco Plum ranked in the Top 2 for the Romance in the world category, but it took hard work and dedication at every level to earn the coveted number one spot. Castillo offered that ultimately it was the value placed on listening to feedback from its visitors as well as applying their recommendations that ultimately gave the resort the edge it needed to come out on top.

“Getting to the top is great but staying at the top is another thing. We have every intention of knocking it out of the part next year, it will take a consistent upping of our game and consistent reading of our guests. It will be a challenge but we are ready for it, putting health and safety first of course,” Castillo added.

Castillo also noted that the resort has applied to the Belize Tourism Board for a Good Standard Certification, to show compliance with all the recommended health and safety standards by local and international authorities.

Coco Plum Island Resort has also won numerous 2020 Travelers’ Choice Best of the Best awards including #1 Top 25 Hotels in Central America in the Romance category; #1 Top 25 Hotels in Central America in the Service category; and #3 Top 25 Hotels in the WORLD in the Service category; and #1 Top 25 Hotels in Central America in the Small Hotel category as well as #9 Top 25 Hotels in the WORLD in the Small Hotels category.
