US Director of Health, Dr. Fauci, says scrientific data shows Hydroxychloroquine not effective

In March, the drug was touted by President Donald Trump in connection with COVID-19.

But, the World Health Organization (WHO) informed that while several drug trials are ongoing, there is currently no proof that hydroxychloroquine or any other drug can cure or prevent COVID-19.

The WHO warns that the misuse of hydroxychloroquine can cause serious side effects and illness and even lead to death.

Oxford University conducted a study that found that the drug was not effective against COVID-19 in hospitalized patients.

The US Food and Drug Administration also warned against the use of the drug outside a hospital setting because of possible risks to the heart from taking it.

A viral video was removed from Facebook after it made false claims that the drug could cure COVID-19.

There has been an intense debate surrounding the use of the drug for treatment of COVID-19 in the United States.

Interestingly, India gifted a package of Hydroxychloroquine to 27 countries including Belize as part of its medical aid package in the fight against COVID-19.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, the US director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease, told BBC that the malaria medication was not effective against the virus.

“We know that every single good study – and by good study I mean randomised control study in which the data are firm and believable – has shown that hydroxychloroquine is not effective in the treatment of Covid-19,” Dr. Fauci said.

The World Health Organization (WHO) says “there is currently no proof” that it is effective as a treatment or prevents Covid-19.
