By BBN Staff: The United States Embassy in Belize has issued congratulations to Lieutenant Commander Alma Pinelo for making history by being appointed the Belize Coast Guard’s first female Vice Commandant.
Lieutenant Pinelo has long been a trusted partner of the Embassy, particularly in advancing Women, Peace, and Security.
In 2013, Lt. Alma graduated from the US Coast Guard Academy, where she studied Marine Environmental Sciences.
In 2017, she represented Belize’s Ministry of Defense at the 2nd annual seminar on millitary gender perspective in Washington, DC.
Last year, Lieutenant Pinelo received the Honor Graduate Award upon completing the International Maritime Officer Course at the U.S. Coast Guard Training Center in Virginia.
She is the first Belizean and the first female to have ever received this prestigious award.
