Economic recovery document “not a retread”

By Aaron Humes: To suggestions that the Economic Recovery Strategy is a “retread” of previous plans that were in train, the Minister of Trade and Investment told us that the plans are short, medium and long-term.

And the Prime Minister says that the impetus now is surviving Covid-19, such that previously laissez-faire Government departments such as one he described in an apocryphal story, have been brought to heel.

It is important, he said, to break down the bottlenecks in Government departments to improve the ease of doing business. It would not be in the best interest of government to just sit back and wait for elections.
