By BBN Staff: The Government of Belize, as it continues to address the COVID-19 pandemic in country, is advising against public officers traveling abroad.
In a memo being circulated by the Ministry of the Public Service, Energy, and Public Utilities, the government has set out a new set of protocols governing international travel for public officers, stressing that the protocols are in place for the health and safety of all public officers in the workplace.
“The Ministry discourages any international travel at this time by Public Officers,” the Ministry said.
Public officers that do decide to travel will have to take all precautions to avoid COVID-19 infection and observe all advisories coming from the Ministry of Health. The memo also said that any time away from work must include time to be spent in quarantine upon return to the country.
“Any time taken for the purpose of quarantine will be treated as vacation leave or leave without pay,” the Ministry added. “All related costs, which includes the quarantine period, will be borne by the individual Public Officer.”
