Belize detects 8 new cases of COVID-19

By BBN Staff: The Ministry of Health confirmed this evening that there is a record number of positive cases in a day as today, they detected 8 new cases in the batch of samples completed.

The breakdown of the 8 cases is as follows:

– 3 in the Central Health Region as follows:

2 from the repatriation flight from the US and 1 from the repatriation from Honduras.

These persons are asymptomatic and are in hotel quarantine.

– 5 cases in the Northern Health Region as follows:

3 in Corozal Town:

2 came in through the Mexican border entry point as part of the repatriation process and are in hotel quarantine, they are also asymptomatic.

The third case has no travel history nor does she refer having been in contact with a known COVID-19 case; this person is a female with respiratory symptoms and is hospitalized.

The contact tracing for this particular case has started.

2 cases in Orange Walk Town:
1 case in that of someone who crossed the border illegally, this person is asymptomatic and is the quarantine facility.

The second case has no travel history nor does he refer having been in contact with a known COVID-19 case; this person is hospitalized with symptoms.

The contact tracing for this particular case has also started.

The Ministry says that out of the 8 cases today, the two cases that warrant in depth investigation are precisely the ones hospitalized as they have any link outside of Belize.
