By BBN Staff: The Christian workers Union (CWU) announced today that, despite notable progress in its negotiations with the Port of Belize Limited, the stevedores who are members of the union have still not returned to work.
The CWU issued a statement, saying that the stevedores will not return to work without completing and signing a collective bargaining agreement (CBA) with the Port. The union added that there were erroneous reports made that the stevedores were back on the job, which may have prompted other PBL staff to return to work as a good faith gesture.
“The PBL Staff decision includes two conditions: 1. that PBL reinstates the 29 CWU Members who were terminated on July 22, 2020; and 2. that PBL concludes a new CBA for its staff within 21 days, on August 28, 2020,” the CWU said.
The negotiations are being assisted by the Ministry of Labour.
