By BBN Staff: The Ministry of Health has confirmed that a case of COVID-19 has been detected in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye.

Moments ago, the Ministry of Health by way of the Office of the Director of Health Services (DHS) issued an update saying that the ministry ran some tests after a “highly suspect” case in San Pedro, to confirm case #57.

“This case is that of a female who presented with fever and respiratory symptoms and is currently being managed on the island. This female denies any travel history and contact tracing for possible source of infection is currently underway. Once further information is known, we will be informing all,” the DHS said.

The DHS also said that the recent case in Orange Walk has been linked to the trafficking of contraband goods, and that an investigation is ongoing; while no specific contacts have been located with respect to the recent case discovered in Corozal.

Both patients from those cases remain hospitalized and are currently stable.
