By BBN Staff: Director of Health Services Dr. Marvin Manzanero, says that he and the Ministry of Health are greatly concerned about photos being circulated showing mass gatherings where people are not adhering to social distancing and not wearing masks properly.
Manzanero issued a statement moments ago, saying that there is equal concern over reports of crowded bus terminals and parties being advertised to preempt the August 15, reopening of the Phillip Goldson International Airport.
“Please take note that we cannot anticipate that we are ‘all safe’ before August 15th or that we are suddenly all in danger after August 15th! As we go about our new routines / new norms, we have to assume that everyone we meet on the street is a potential carrier of COVID-19 and we must therefore exercise all prevention measures at all times,”
He added that the Ministry of Health is calling on the public to avoid mass gatherings, to continue to exercise physical distancing when in public and to limit time spent in public “ONLY ESSENTIAL activities.” He stressed that these practices should be the part of a “new norm” and should be observed before and beyond the reopening of the airport, in light of the potential cases that may come about going forward.
