Over 18 million COVID-19 infections worldwide

By BBN Staff: As the COVID-19 pandemic enters its 9th month, over 18 million people have been affected worldwide.

Worldometer reports that as of 7:30 a.m. today, Sunday, August 2, 2020, there were a total of 18,068,192 COVID-19 infections.

Over 689,000 have died from the virus, however, over 11.3 million people have recovered. Over 5.9 million people who currently have the virus are listed as being in mild condition, while some 65,795 people are listed as critical.

The United States, which has the most infections globally, has reached over 4.7 million cases, with almost 158,000 deaths. Brazil, the second-most hit country in the world, has over 2.7 million cases and over 93,000 deaths. While Mexico ranks fifth globally in terms of confirmed cases, it ranks third globally in the number of COVID-19 deaths, with over 47,000 people losing their lives to the virus and related complications.

Belize has confirmed a total of 56 cases, with only two deaths. Authorities are currently monitoring 24 active cases, with eight new cases being discovered yesterday.
