Poor and Famous Culture Club hosting fundraising sticker drive

Posted: Sunday, August 2, 2020. 12:44 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: Poor and Famous Culture Club (PFCC), a grassroots initiative for at-risk youth is seeking the public’s assistance in raising funds by participating in its ongoing sticker drive.

Larry Sutherland, the coordinator of PFCC, said that the Club is geared towards providing youths ages 8 years to 18 years old with positive outlets through sporting activities after school, on weekends and during holidays. The PFCC also runs an under-10 football team. Sutherland said that stickers are just $5 but each donation will go a long way in sourcing necessary equipment, uniforms, ect. to keep the
initiative going.

“We teach youths how to get along. We find out who is in school and out of school, who needs help to stay in school and who needs a job. We do drug counseling, we do educational trips, mainly to get the kids together and keep them off the street,” Sutherland said.

Sutherland, who notes that he himself was enrolled in the program back in 1984, says he has been the coordinator since 2008. He notes that two of the youths from the program represented Belize at a football match in Colombia in 2019, where their team placed second out of a total 19 teams.

Anyone wishing to purchase a sticker or support the team with cash or in-kind donations are urged to contact Sutherland at 626-5393.

Interested persons are also urged to check out the team’s instagram account at the handle @poor_and_famous_culture_club_, or look up Poor and Famous Culture Club on Facebook to see the work that the PFCC has been doing.
