Online portal for unemployment benefits now open

Posted: Monday, August 3, 2020. 10:10 am CST.

By BBN Staff: The Government of Belize’s (GOB)’s Phase 2 rollout of it’s unemployment benefits program officially kicked off today with the opening of the online portal for applications.

Those who were laid off from their jobs and self-employed people who lost income as a result of the economic downturn brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic can go to www.covid19.bz. to apply for relief benefits. Those in need of further information on the program can send an email to [email protected]  or a text to 613-0095.

“Applications and approvals from phase one will not be carried over into the second phase, since some persons who were unemployed have gone back to work and new persons have become unemployed,” GOB said.

The three-month program is a collaborative effort led by the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Commerce and the Ministry of Labour, Local Government and Rural Development, which has a total of $14 million dedicated to assist affected Belizeans.
