By Aaron Humes: This past Friday, July 31, Football Federation of Belize (FFB) President Sergio Chuc and Punta Gorda Town Mayor Ashton McKenzie signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the construction of a 5-a-side football pitch in the Indianville section of Punta Gorda. Signing as witness was Toledo Football Association’s Chairman, Allen Genus.
The pitch will be a synthetic one and will be the first ever synthetic turf in Punta Gorda. According to the Punta Gorda Town Council, work on the pitch began a little over a year ago when the council bulldozed and graded 1.2 acres of land with the intention of “partnering with NGO’s and businesses to create an environment conducive to sports and relaxation for our youth population”.
The Football Federation says “This historic event will assist the growth and development of the huge number of talented youths of the Toledo district… [and] ensure the sustainable growth of football in the country.”
