BREAKING: Two more Corozal police officers confirmed with COVID-19; 12 quarantined

Posted: Wednesday, August 5, 2020. 1:42 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: Two colleagues of the first police officer from Corozal District have tested positive for COVID-19 and a further 12 officers have been sent home to quarantine.

Commissioner of Police Chester Williams said those 12 officers’ tests would be conducted today and the hope is that they will be negative.

The contact tracing for the newly positive officers is underway but investigations so far say the infected officers got it from their colleague.  Where that officer got it from is still being investigated.

Not only are officers not assigned to San Pedro Town barred from visiting Ambergris Caye, there has been an internal ‘travel advisory’ issued for the northern districts where many officers are originally from.

Williams said these officers and others are asked to stay isolated as much as possible to avoid catching and spreading the virus.

More later on.
