Partial or complete lock-down may be coming

Posted: Wednesday, August 5, 2020. 3:54 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: Authorities are monitoring the current COVID-19 situation in Belize and determining if there will be partial and or complete lock-down of areas of the country following a surge in COVID-19 positive cases.

Prime Minister Dean Barrow at a virtual press conference today stressed that he could not say for certain that a total lock-down is not coming, but that those decisions would be made after consultation with health authorities.

Director of Health Services, Dr. Marin Manzanero, said that the Ministry of Health ran a record number of COVID-19 tests yesterday, 151, tests, with 148 already processed. Manzanero said that contact tracing is on-going with respect to the positive cases, but investigations thus far have shown many of the cases have been linked to the purchase of contraband goods.
