By BBN Staff: This morning, rumors circulated like wildlife that a staff member of the University of Belize (UB) may have contracted COVID-19.
UB issued a statement a short while ago assuring that at the moment “there are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 among staffers”.
“We have had a few of our staffers who may have been exposed, one of whom has already been tested and showed a negative result while the other has been recommended for testing. Colleagues with whom they came in contact while at UB have been asked not to return to the campus,” a statement from UB said.
The University says that it has gone into a heightened state of vigilance with respect to possible community spread.
According to the University, it will continue its semester that has just begun mostly in an online mode, “while administrative services will be appropriately restructured”.
“Should any of the health or safety circumstances change at the University, the community and the public will be so advised,” the University noted.
