COVID-19 battle: Contacts don’t matter anymore; focus will be on those most vulnerable, including the elderly

By BBN Staff: Belize’s battle with COVID-19 has taken on a new twist as Health authorities are becoming overwhelmed with the spike in cases within the last few days.

There are now 3 clusters of COVID-19 in San Pedro, at least 1 cluster in the Orange Walk district, and a growing number of people showing COVID-19 like symptoms in various municipalities.

At this point, Dr. Russell Manzanero said, contacts don’t matter anymore; the Ministry will focus on those who are most vulnerable such as those with chronic diseases and the elderly.

For San Pedro, if you are ill, stay at home and call the Ministry hotline and avoid going out. Expect that the lines for testing will be longer, so do not get anxious, but continue to practice the guidelines including wearing of masks, self-isolation and social distancing.
