Health Officials say some 30 new COVID-19 cases may emerge today

By BBN Staff: Health Officials report that some 30 new COVID-19 cases may emerge after today’s testing is fully completed. According the the Ministry of Health, the first preliminary report indicate that 180 samples are being processed today.

Of these 180 samples, some 30 cases are going through a repeat polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test before being confirmed as COVID-19 positive.The final results will be released later today.

If the 30 samples being re-tested today are confirmed as positive, this will be a new daily record for Belize and will take the country’s COVID-19 tally to 144 cases.

The 30 positive cases are not only from San Pedro. However, at least 5 cases are related to a new church cluster identified in San Pedro.

According to Belize’s Health experts, the majority of these new COVID-19 cases will quarantine at home.
