Over 19 million COVID-19 cases worldwide

By BBN Staff: As Belize battles its own surge in COVID-19 cases, the world is seeing the number of confirmed cases soar to above 19 million.

Worldometer reports that there were a total of 19,358,362 confirmed cases as of 10 a.m. today, with over 719,000 people losing their life to the virus.

There are currently over 6.2 million active cases with 99 percent of them listed as being in mild condition, while 65,201 (1 percent) are listed as critical.

The United States has surpassed over 5 million cases, with almost 163,000 deaths. Brazil is nearing 3 million cases with over 98,000 deaths.

Notably, more than 12.4 million people have recovered from COVID-19 worldwide.

From Friday, July 31, 2020, to Friday, August 8, 2020, Belize went from 48 confirmed cases to 114 confirmed cases.
