Alliance of private enterprises supports police against contraband

By BBN Staff: A group of Belizean private sector enterprises has made a significant contribution to the Belize Police Department’s efforts in combating contraband.

A 2020 Ford Ranger Crew Cab 4X4 XL valued at BZ$45,000 was today handed over to Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams, at the Belize Estate Company Ltd. compound in Belize City.

The donation was made possible through generous financial contributions from the following companies:

    Bowen & Bowen, Ltd and Companies

    BSI/ASR

    Caribbean Paper Company

    Cuello’s Distillery Limited

    GraceKennedy (Belize) Ltd.

    L&R Liquors, Ltd

    MADISCO

    SMVNF Investments Ltd.

    Travellers Liquors Ltd.

The Police Department will be using the vehicle to patrol known contraband hot spots and curtail the ongoing incidences of persons illegally traversing our borders.

“The practice of contraband has negatively affected the local economy for years by undermining the growth and development of the country. It has resulted in lost revenue for the country, lost sales for local businesses, and created a security problem for our society,” the alliance says.

 Under the specter of COVID-19, it has now also become a serious health and safety issue for all our citizens.

A statement from the alliance says that the companies are proud to provide this support and urge all Belizeans to do their part in safeguarding our nation’s borders for the protection of our communities and the economy.
