Entire Lebanese government resigning over Beirut explosion

By BBN Staff: The New York Post reports that the entire Government of Lebanon is resigning following the explosion in Beirut that killed over 200 people and injured over 6,000 more.

Lebanon’s Health Minister reportedly spoke on the mass resignations ahead of an official statement expected to be made later by Prime Minister Hassan Diab.

The Minister said that Diab is expected to head to the presidential palace to tender the resignations of all the ministers, after seven of them stepped down last week, shortly after the blast.

The blast made international headlines last Tuesday, as videos circulated of the event and its immediate aftermath. Later, information was released explaining that the massive explosion was believed to have been caused by an accidental fire that ignited 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate stored for six years in a port warehouse.

The words “My government did this” can be seen spray painted on a wall near the site of the blast site following the event.
