By BBN Staff: Over the weekend Police arrested and charged a total of 147 people countrywide for various offenses under the Emergency Powers Regulations.

Commissioner of Police Chester Williams issued an update this morning, noting that 124 people were arrested for not wearing a mask or cloth to cover their nose and mouth while in public, 18 people were arrested for being out after curfew, two people were arrested for failure to practice social distancing, one for being unable to provide a reasonable explanation for movement outside of curfew, one person for not wearing a mask while on public transportation and one business owner was charged with keeping his establishment open when it should have been closed.

Following the announcement of the new countrywide State of Emergency (SOE) in response to the spike in COVID-19 cases, Attorney General Michael Peyrefitte issued several stern warnings that police would be “aggressively” enforcing the regulations in an attempt to control the spread of the virus, which has now been detected all over the country, with community spread confirmed in San Pedro.
