Central Prison suspends inmate visits due to COVID-19 spike

Posted: Tuesday, August 11, 2020. 10:15 am CST.

By Aaron Humes: The Kolbe Foundation Central Prison at Hattieville has announced it will temporarily suspend visits to inmates from Friday, August 14 until further notice due to the recent spike in COVID-19 cases.

The prison says it is keen to avoid an outbreak among prisoners which it will be difficult to control owing to the nature of prisons generally.

Visits by legal advisors will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis and subject to the prison’s Covid-19 preventive measures, a statement says.

All inmates’ activities within the prison walls will continue as per normal, including maintaining contact with their loved ones via telephone. Also, during this time the loved ones and friends of inmates will only be allowed to make “cash deposits” into their Personal Accounts for them to purchase from the prison’s commissary.

The prison has once again ramped up its screening and isolation efforts and expects full compliance by all persons visiting the facility.
