Domestic incident ends in man chopped in downtown Punta Gorda

By Aaron Humes: Police are investigating a fight and chopping incident that happened this afternoon in downtown Punta Gorda Town, Toledo District. 

38-year-old Derick Arnold was following his child’s mother and a man identified as Moses Varro, 35. Arnold was on a bicycle and was carrying a machete.

Police say Arnold suddenly advanced on Varro with the machete, and in the ensuing fight, Varro took away the weapon and allegedly used it to chop Arnold multiple times.

Arnold sustained injuries to the left hand, small left finger, right shoulder, and on the forehead and was admitted to Punta Gorda Town hospital.

Varro is being held by police as their investigations continue.
