By BBN Staff: The National Student Union of Belize (NSUB) made history this week, by being welcomed as an Honorary Member of the National Trade Union Congress of Belize (NTUCB).
The NSUB had formally requested membership to the NTUCB via letter on August 5, and the Congress responded on Monday to announce the honorary membership.
“Please note that as an Honorary Member, your union will have every right afforded under our constitution with the exception of voting,” the NTUCB said. “This is a historic event, as we want to place on record that both the NUSB, representing the students of Belize inclusive of the students at the University of Belize, and the UBFSU, representing the faculty and staff at the University of Belize, are now under the umbrella of the NTUCB.”
The NTUCB, on behalf of its 11 member unions welcomed the NSUB and noted that its membership marks the beginning of a “new and exciting era for trade unionism in Belize.”
The NSUB is expected to make a statement later today.
