Posted: Tuesday, August 11, 2020. 3:10 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: The National Hurricane Center is closely monitoring a new tropical depression that has formed in the Atlantic.

Tropical Depression 11 is located over the tropical Atlantic Ocean about 1110 miles (1790 km) west-southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands and about 1450 miles (2335 km) east of the Lesser Antilles.

It’s moving toward the west near 16 mph (26 km/h), and this general motion is expected to continue through Wednesday.

A west-northwestward motion at a similar forward speed is forecast to begin Wednesday night and continue through the rest of the week.

Maximum sustained winds are near 35 mph (55 km/h) with higher gusts.

The depression is forecasted to become a tropical storm by Wednesday. When that occurs, it will be named Josephine.
