A shocking 86 new cases of COVID-19 detected in Belize today

By BBN Staff: A shocking 86 cases of COVID-19 was detected in Belize today out of two separate batches of samples processed today. The Ministry of Health, in its COVID-19 update released late tonight, notes that a total of 257 samples were processed in these 2 batches.

The full geographic breakdown of the 86 positive samples is as follows:

– 1 case in Corozal (contact of a previous case)

– 2 cases in Caye Caulker

– 6 cases in Belize City

– 8 cases in Stann Creek District (2 related to previous identified case in Stann Creek and 6 as imported cases)

– 28 cases in Orange Walk (mostly related to a construction site in San Pedro)

– 41 cases in San Pedro

The release states “the majority of these cases are related to previously identified cases and underscores the value of contact tracing that continues”.

The Ministry commended the tireless work of the staff on the ground that remains alert and actively seeking more cases.

Throughout the day tomorrow, the Ministry promises to provide further details of the cases.

In light of the number of cases in San Pedro, the infographic now has the cases for San Pedro separately. However, the cases for Caye Caulker will continue to be included in the Belize District tally.
